Purpose of the Pupil Premium:
Pupil attainment on entry is generally lower than the expected National Attainment average and many of them have not been accessing education regularly prior to arriving at The Helix. Their poor behaviour in school can also mask learning difficulties.
Harrow has a diverse community with no ethnic majority. Whilst parts of the borough are affluent there are recognized pockets of deprivation. The proportion of children eligible for free school meals increased by 10% from 2007-2011.
Harrow is worse than the national average for income deprivation. Nationally Harrow is ranked 113th out of 354, where 1st is the most deprived. Harrow is worse than the national average for child income deprivation.
Two of Harrow’s LSOAs fall within the country’s 5% most deprived LSOAs for child income deprivation. (National & London Rank) Harrow has high levels of child income deprivation with 18 (13%) out of the 137 LSOAs ranked in the country’s 20% most deprived LSOAs. Eight of the top ten ranked areas for child income deprivation are London Boroughs, with Harrow ranked 23rd in London.
