Key Stage 1 and 2 Curriculum

Primary pupils follow a broad and enriched curriculum following the National Curriculum 2014. Our aim is to address pupils’ barriers to learning to enable them to make academic progress.

Please look at this year’s curriculum plan so that you are able to see what your child will be learning by clicking the links below.

    Subjects Taught

    Maths:

We focus on place value skills and number skills e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Pupils are supported with equipment such as numberlines and Numicon.

    Literacy:

We focus on reading and writing with pupils learning through short texts. Pupils in Key Stage One learn phonics and all pupils have at least one session of Guided Reading per week alongside a daily dedicated reading session of 20 minutes.

    Other subjects:

Pupils also learn Science, Computing, Spanish, Physical Education (P.E.), Religious Education (R.E.) and Personal, Social, Health & Citizenship Education (PSHCE).

Pupils learn History, Geography, Art and Design & Technology through themes during ‘Topic Work’. This helps the pupils to make connections in their learning.

    Other Information

All pupils have the opportunity to receive mentoring sessions; sessions with an Art Therapist and Social Skills sessions. Teachers and support staff write termly reports to update you on your child’s progress and achievements. We have target setting days three times a year where you can view and discuss your child’s work. At these meetings, we set academic and behaviour for learning targets.

If you require further information on our curriculum, please do not hesitate to speak to the Deputy Headteacher or the Headteacher.
